A Day in the Life of a Pre-Schooler

Before Pre-School I must choose something to bring in to talk about at circle time.  Mummy walks me to pre-school  for 8.45, we wait in the playground until the teacher opens the door.  I say bye to mum and put my object in the Moons or Stars box (Moons for the older children and Stars for the younger ones)

I hang my coat up on a peg.  I find my name on the table and use the magnet to put it on the board.  Let’s go and play!

There are lots of different activities to choose from.  Perhaps I could dress up as a fairy, batman or a hungry lion!  There is table with building toys, jigsaws, Play-do or Clay, I go on the computer and use one of the different learning games today.  After, I go and look at the books, yes I have found one, I will ask the teacher to read it to me..

On the carpet will be a train set or a dolls house, something different each day!  Oh look at the board, I can paint, chalk or draw today, I will paint a picture for daddy. Right I am going to play in the playhouse and cook some food for my friends and maybe make a cup of tea.

“Snack Time” someone calls, I wash my hands, get my name and stand in the queue near the snack table.  I love snack time – I wonder what it is today!  I hand my name to the teacher and pour out my own drink, I think I will have milk today.  I then pick my bowl and get my snack, today it is cheese and apple – Yummy.

After I have eaten my snack I bring the bowl & cup back to the teacher for them to wash up and I go back to playing for a while.  When everyone has finished the teacher calls us round to the carpet area and we all sit with our legs crossed. The teacher looks through the boxes of objects that we have all brought in today. One by one each of my friends stands with the teacher and talk about their object.  Next it is my turn and I bought in a pink stone as the colour was pink.  I tell everyone that it is a stone called Rose and it helps keep you calm! The teachers laughed!

After circle time it is time to go outside and play. I get my coat on and stand in the queue at the door.  Today the bikes are out but I think I am going to play with the bat and ball with my friends. I have a really good run around in the fresh air for half an hour, climbing on the climbing frame, playing in the sandpit and catching and throwing and we are called in again – time for a story!

Off come our coats and we sitdown for a nice story to be read to us, I love this part.  Today it is “The Tiger who came to Tea." After the story some children go home but I am staying for the whole day today.

Lunchtime! Our lunch boxes are laid out on the table for us.  I wash my hands and find my lunchbox and sit down at the table with my friends.  I have a marmite sandwich, juice, a banana, mini baby-bell and yoghurt for dessert.  I enjoy lunchtime too as we get to sit with everyone and have a little chat.  After lunchtime we take our lunchbox to the trolley to take home and then we can play for a while to wait for everyone to finish.

Our names are back on the table and we need to find them again and put them up on the board.  We can either play inside or outside today. All the toys have changed on the tables; I think I will do a puzzle first.  Afterwards I play in the tub with sand and dinosaurs  RAAaaah!

I am going to sit with one of the teachers now as we can make a badge today.  Mine is a badge with a Scarey bear on!

I have dressed up, played with the clay, painted daddy a lovely rainbow picture and played in the Tepee outside and Snack time is called again.  After snack we usually go outside in the afternoon but it is raining now so the teachers get us some games down to play with.  I like playing with the Pirate game and Mr Potato Head.

It has all gone so quickly we put on our coats and get our bags, then we have our last story. This time the teacher asked me to pick a book and I chose The Gruffalo.  After the story my mummy picks me up and she checks in my folder and she sees my picture of a rainbow.

That was a great day, I can’t wait to go back tomorrow.
