Healthy Eating

Silsoe Pre School likes to encourage healthy eating and to reflect this the children are offered healthy snacks twice a day. Below is a list of snacks that we like to include.  Also you will find some ideas for your child's lunchbox here.

Pre-school snacks include:

Apple and cheese

Carrots and dip

Fruit selection

Breadsticks and dip

Crackers with Cheese spread or marmite

Oranges and grapes

With these snacks the children choose a drink of milk or water and all sit at the table together.

Learning about food and healthy eating

We also encourage children to learn about food and we recently completed some of the exercises below to make learning about food more fun!

Juicing Oranges

Decorating Pancakes with filling of their choice

Making Rabbit Muffins with cheese, peas and carrots.

Lunchtime

Lunchtime is an important time at pre-school as the children get to sit down at the table and eat their lunch together.  The children thoroughly enjoy this part of the day as they like to talk about what they are eating and compare food with each other.

Below are some lunch box ideas for your children's lunchboxes:

Wraps, sandwiches, muffins, crackers, rolls and pitta breads are an excellent bulk for your child's lunchbox and wholemeal and seeded is best if your child is happy with this!

Frubes, Fruit Flakes, Mini Baby bell, cheese strings, fromage frais and raisins are a nice way to add an enjoyable but healthy snack into your childs lunchbox.

Treat

You can add a treat to their lunchbox like a scone, cake or snack bar but please do no give them a chocolate bar or sweets in their lunchbox.

Drink

You can also add a drink, look out for drinks that count as one of their five a day but no fizzy drinks.
