Sickness & Exclusion

Infections spread very quickly in Pre-Schools. Children who have an infection should not attend Pre-School in order to reduce the risk to other children and adults. Please let us know if your child contracts an infectious disease so that we can make other parents aware and keep observations on the children.

 

The exclusion times recommended by Bedfordshire County Council for more common infectious diseases are as follows:

 

Illness

Minimum period of exclusion

Verrucas

No exclusion, verrucas must remain covered

Impetigo

Until the skin heals

Glandular fever

COVID

Remain home until temperature is normal and child feels well enough to return

Chickenpox

5 days from the onset of rash

German Measles

5 days from the onset of rash

Whooping Cough

21 days from the onset of paroxysmal cough

Intestinal worms

1 day for treatment

Measles

5 days from the onset of rash

Slapped cheek

None

Conjunctivitis

None

Head lice

No exclusion but please advise staff

Sickness and diarrhoea

48 hours after the last bout of sickness & diarrhoea
